First it is important to know a little bit about spider mites if you hope to get rid of them. Spider mites are really small and can barely be seen. A good way to check for spider mites is to hold a white piece of paper underneath the leaves of your affected plants. Then rub the underneath of the leaf with a Popsicle stick. The tiny mites will fall onto the paper and be visible. These tiny pests also leave a light web on lower leaves of your plants. If you notice this sign you probably have a spider mite problem that you should get rid of naturally.

Moisture and Humidity

Plants that do not have enough moisture or humidity are very susceptible to spider mites. Keep your plants moist is important to spider mite control, and depending on the plant you are naturally protecting you will have to choose a method for moisture. Houseplants can be sprayed or misted a couple of times a day to keep humidity high. To add moisture to houseplants simply place a dish of water underneath the pot. Adding mulch or peat moss to garden plants will help retain moisture. For garden plants misting or spraying regularly will help drown spider mites and get rid of them naturally.

Rubbing Alcohol

When trying to get rid of spider mites naturally you should try rubbing alcohol. Mixing alcohol with water and spraying your plants will help get rid of spider mites naturally without damaging your plants. You can mix 1 part alcohol to 1 or 2 parts water for maximum effectiveness. You can also use a cotton ball dipped in straight rubbing alcohol to gently rub the spider mites on the bottom of the leaves of your plants. Alcohol will kill the spider mites in contact. Remember to use these methods in the evening time so the alcohol will evaporate without the sun causing burn to your leaves.

Dish Detergent

Dish detergent is an excellent way to get rid of spider mites and other garden pests naturally. Mix 2 tablespoons of dish detergent with a cup of water and spray plants thoroughly with the mixture. Allow the spray to dry and water your garden as usual.

When trying to get rid of spider mites naturally it is important to cover the entire plants when spraying. Missing a spot might mean missing spider mites. It is also important to repeat the procedures every other day for at least a week to completely kill the spider mites during all cycles of their lives.
