Summer Handprint Crafts for Kids Using Paper

Rainbow Mobile

Then help kids cut out their handprints. Also cut enough string for each color of paper and poke the same amount of holes in the paper plate in different spots.

Then poke a hole in the palm of a single handprint from each color. Tie a not using the hole and the string in each handprint. Then poke enough holes for each string into the edge of the paper plate. Space the holes evenly around the outer rim.

Stick the strings through the holes and tape them to the top of the plate to secure them in place. Add another piece of string to the top of the plate so you can hang your mobile. Next, help kids cover the entire top of the plate using the remaining handprints and the glue. This rainbow mobile is perfect for summer.

Sun Wall Hanging

Another fun handprint craft using paper is a sun wall hanging. Kids will love this summer craft, and it is easy to create. For this project you will need yellow construction paper, orange construction paper, glue, scissors, a pencil, a large bowl, and ribbon.

Start by helping kids place the bowl upside down on the paper. Then trace the edge of the bowl. Help kids cut the circle out of the paper. Then help kids trace their handprints on the yellow and orange paper several times. Cut the handprints out of the paper and arrange them around the sun. Help kids glue the handprints in place with the yellow and orange paper alternating. Then cut a piece of ribbon and glue both ends to the back of the circle. Flip the sun over and it is ready to hang on the wall.

Window Clings

Window clings are easy to make, and kids will enjoy seeing them hanging in windows for summer feel all year long. For this summer craft you will need paint, paper plates, a paintbrush, plastic wrap, pins, scissors, and cardboard. Start by cutting the cardboard into a square or rectangle.

Wrap a piece of plastic wrap around the cardboard and use the pins to secure it tightly in place. Then help kids add another sheet of plastic evenly on top, and attach it the same way. Pour the different colored paints on the paper plates. Then assist kids as they use handprints, fingers, and the paintbrush to create different designs and pictures on the plastic wrap.

Butterflies are easily created using handprints; simply place the fingers outward and have the palms touch. A thumbprint and can be the head. Flowers are also easily made by kids using handprints. Thumbprints can make leaves and a paintbrush can make vines.

When the paint has dried, add another layer of plastic wrap on top of the painted piece. You can then remove the layers of plastic wrap so that they are all stuck together. Use the scissors to trim the plastic. This craft is fun for kids to hang in windows so the summer sun can shine through them.

Another great craft for kids in summer time is a rainbow wall garland. For this craft you will need paint in every color of the rainbow, paper plates, a long sheet of clear vinyl paper, and scissors. It is a good idea to place newspaper on surfaces to make clean up easier.

Start this craft by helping kids pour the different colors of paint onto paper plates. Spread the vinyl sheet out on the work surface. Then let kids dip their hands in the paint and row of handprints across the sheet. Let them continue adding handprints to create a pretty design or pattern. When the paint is dry you can trim the majority of the excess vinyl. Hang this handprint craft over a door way or along a wall for summer style.
